Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today inaugurated a solar operated adaptive traffic signal system at Sachibalaya Marg here and laid foundation stone of four Smart City projects in the city to bring solutions for city’s traffic and commuters.

The four projects include Smart Janpath from Vani Vihar Square to Sishu Bhavan Square, designed car parking slots at Saheed Nagar and Unit-Two market and a co-ordinated ‘Jana Seva Kendra’ at Saheed Nagar here.

The new signal system will enable the capital city roads to transform into ‘complete streets’ meaning they are designed and operated such that all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists of all ages and abilities can have safe access.

The total cost of all the projects is estimated to be Rs 176 crore.

Among others, Housing and Urban development minister Niranjan Pujari, MP Prasanna Patasani, MLA Bijay Kumar Mohanty and Priyadarshi Mishra and city Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena were present on the occasion.

“The main objective of the Smart City projects is to transform Janpath into complete streets, create utility corridors and activity space for people to walk and gather. The new adaptive traffic signals will change pattern according to the traffic load. Apart from this, multi-storey car parking slots are designed under the project,” said Ananta Jena.
