CPI(M) Central Committee member and former MLA M.A. Gafoor on Tuesday accused Collector Challa Vijayamohan of ignoring the status quo orders issued by the High Court in September last year on the proposed solar power plant at Gani village and said a contempt petition would be filed against him.

The High Court ordered a status quo on a writ petition filed by a group of 22 farmers of Gani village in Gadivemula mandal in September 2016 alleging that revenue officials were forcibly acquiring 5,650 acres of land being cultivated by them for the plant without disbursal of compensation and without following the provisions of the Land Acquisition Act 2013 and the Assignment Act, Mr. Gafoor told the media here. The judge directed the Collector and revenue officers concerned to resolve the issue within six weeks, he added.

“When a party delegation urged the Collector in the Praja Vani grievance programme on Monday to disburse compensation before taking over lands, Mr. Vijayamohan made intemperate remarks, accused them of stalling development and threatened to banish the party leaders from Kurnool district,” Mr. Gafoor alleged.

The CPI(M) leader accused the Collector of ignoring court orders and acting dictatorially to favour private investors.
