DNV GL, the world’s largest resource of independent energy experts and renewables certification body, has presented BELECTRIC with a type certificate for its LV5 battery inverter. This demonstrates compliance with the German FGW Guideline TR8 and the Medium Voltage Directive of the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW). To achieve certification, the battery inverter had to pass a design review and electrical test as well as complete extensive measurements in type tests and simulation models.

“This type certificate provides BELECTRIC with an internationally recognized proof that its battery inverter was developed and manufactured to rigorous quality and safety standards and satisfies the respective grid connection requirements,” said Bernd Hinzer, Grid Connection Certification Manager at DNV GL.

“Network services are no longer being provided by conventional power plants only. Large distributed battery storage systems are playing a growing role in ensuring high grid availability and power quality in the most environmentally responsible way possible,” explained Kim Mørk, Executive Vice President of Renewables Certification at DNV GL.

“The LV5 battery inverter is the core of the BELECTRIC energy storage system, since it responds to grid demands in a fraction of a second and reliably stabilizes the regional power grid,” said Bernhard Beck, Executive Chairman of BELECTRIC. “We have been employing General Electric’s innovative inverter technology for photovoltaic and energy storage applications for years. In collaborating with GE, our engineers have refined the hardware and software to cover a broad range of applications and support special functions such as black start capability, use in island microgrids or hybrid power plants, peak shaving and setpoint following.”

DNV GL has been providing the component, type and project certifications and declarations of conformity with SDLWindV, BDEW, TC2007 and FGW TR8 – including revised versions of these standards and any new VDE user regulations that may replace them – needed to obtain grid access for wind turbines, photovoltaic arrays, co-generation heat and power stations and energy storage systems for years.
