EDF Energies Nouvelles announces the acquisition by its subsidiary EDF EN do Brasil of a project for a photovoltaic power plant to be built. This future Pirapora II power plant will have an installed capacity of 115 MWp.
EDF Energies Nouvelles is continuing its development in the renewable energy sector in Brazil. With this new project, it holds a portfolio under construction of 489 MW, of which 183 MW of wind and 306 MWp of solar.
EDF Energies Nouvelles acquired 80% of the Pirapora II photovoltaic power plant project from Canadian Solar Inc, which remains a 20% shareholder in the project and is responsible for manufacturing photovoltaic panels at its local plant. The Pirapora II project (115 MWp) benefits from a 20-year power purchase contract (PPA) and is scheduled to be commissioned in the first half of 2018.

Located in the south-eastern region of the country, the project is adjacent to Pirapora I (191 MWp), another photovoltaic power plant currently under construction, also owned by EDF Energies Nouvelles in partnership with Canadian Solar Inc.

With a total installed capacity of more than 300 MWp, the solar energy generated by these two projects will represent the annual electricity consumption of 323,000 Brazilian households.

Antoine Cahuzac, Executive Director of the EDF Group, in charge of Renewable Energies and CEO of EDF Energies Nouvelles said: “These future installations confirm the EDF Group’s ambitions in Brazil. With its natural resources and growing energy needs, Brazil is a strategic market for the EDF Group, which aims to double its renewable capacity in France and internationally by 2030, as part of its corporate plan Cap 2030 “.
