Following is a statement from Carine Dumit, representative of the Energy Freedom Coalition of America (EFCA) member company SolarCity, recognizing the short-term compromise legislation signed by Governor Charlie Baker:

“EFCA commends the Conference Committee, the Massachusetts legislators, and Governor Baker, who have prioritized action on solar legislation in the past months. The legislation will get the solar industry up and running again, providing jobs for solar workers and more opportunities for customers to save money by going solar. We appreciate the efforts of the House and Senate leadership and all Conference Committee members.

The compromise includes some worrisome elements, including lower rates for solar customers going forward, which may impact the ability for some businesses and low-income communities to take full advantage of the benefits of going solar. We are also concerned about the short-term nature of the compromise, but look forward to working with the Legislature going forward to ensure that all Massachusetts ratepayers can access and benefit from solar energy. However, this bill presents significant progress and we commend the governor for signing this expeditiously.

Massachusetts is a solar leader in the United States and today’s legislation will help maintain that legacy. We look forward to continue working with our partners in the state.”
