First Lady inaugurates 50 KW Solar Power Plant

As part of the initiatives of the Electricity Department to harness new & renewable energy sources, a 50 KW Solar Power Plant has been installed at the Raj Niwas Complex. At a simple function held in the Raj Niwas complex today, the First Lady of the Islands, Smt Suneeti Singh in the presence of Hon’ble Lt Governor, Lt Gen A K Singh (Retd), inaugurated the power plant.

In his brief address as the chief guest, the Lt Governor stated that the installation of the 50 KW Solar Power Plant in the Raj Niwas Complex is the 1st in the series of renewable energy projects planned by the administration in the direction of moving towards green energy. “It’s a great success that we have achieved this and in the coming years the A&N Islands will become the first green Island in the world”, he said. He also expressed his gratitude to the officers of the Administration, including all departments for working as a team in taking the Islands towards the path of progress and development.

Welcoming the chief guest and others, the Chief Secretary, Shri Anindo Majumdar said that this is the first of the series of initiatives taken by the administration to make these Islands diesel free and switch over to green power. This beginning, he said has herald a new chapter in power consumption in these islands and called upon all departments to take up initiatives for switching from diesel to green power i.e. solar power. He also highlighted some of important solar power projects taken up by the administration and called upon the departments of the administration to educate the people about the economic benefit of switching over to solar energy and taking up solar energy plants.

The function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the Superintendent Engineer (Electricity), Shri U K Paul.
