The commissioned capacity of grid connected solar power plants in India as on 14th January, 2016 is 5129.813 MW. Several States have taken initiatives following the Central Government and framed Solar Policies, to support setting up solar power projects, which had an impact of lowering levelized solar tariff. Amongst others, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, UP, Punjab and Uttarakhand have come out with tenders for procurement of solar power recently. Sustained efforts by central and state Governments have resulted in lowering of levelized tariffs in a much shorter period of time, with the tariffs going below Rs. 5/kWh in some cases. Inorder to promote large scale capacity addition of solar projects, a scheme to support creation of Solar Parks and Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects in the country was proposed in the Union Budget 2014-15. In tune with the Budget announcement, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) framed a scheme for setting up of 25 solar parks targeting to add 20,000 MW solar power in next 5 years.More Informationcomments-invited-on-Draft-5000MW-Guidelines
