Puducherry: Mahindra Electric, a part of Mahindra Group, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Auroville, an international township in the making, to launch integrated facilities to promote electric vehicles in the township to commemorate the world environment day celebrations.

With the signing of the MoU, Mahindra Electric and Auroville will collaborate with Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, Puducherry smart city development limited, GoGreen BOV, Bengaluru and others to establish smart parking systems for electric vehicles, infrastructure to charge the vehicles and facilities to integrate Nemo software (which furnishes information on battery and performance of electric vehicles).

The two will promote ride-sharing, ride-hailing and self-drive rentals. Mahindra Electric will help the township in harnessing the renewable power and its storage. The collaboration will be an extension of Auroville’s several e-mobility initiatives launched over the last few decades.

“Mahindra has been working for close to a decade in developing the electric eco-system in India. The evolution of a common platform integrating mobility, energy storage and charging for an entire community is an important step to ensure future scalability. There is great synergy between Auroville’s vision to create a green mobility system and our initiatives. We are confident that Mahindra Electric’s Nemo, will be a suitable platform to develop a sustainable mobility ecosystem for any community,” said Mahindra Electric CEO Mahesh Babu.
