Juwi Shizen Energy Builds 14 Mw Solar Power Plant In Japan


Tokyo-based joint venture juwi Shizen Energy Inc. (hereafter referred to as “juwi Shizen Energy”) has just started construction on the 14 megawatt Inshinomaki Numazi Photovoltaic Power Plant. The project is situated on a former golf course in the city of Inshinomaki (Miyagi prefecture) in the north of Japan’s main island Honshu. The utility-scale power plant has a size of 222,000 square meters and will annually produce approximately 16 million kilowatt hours of clean electricity. This equals the amount of power consumed by 4,400 average Japanese households.

juwi Shizen Energy is providing EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) services for Inshinomaki Kizuna GK – a company invested by the General Electric (GE) group company GE Energy Financial Services and Trina Solar Limited. Trina Solar Japan Energy Co. Ltd., a fully-owned subsidiary of Trina Solar, is in charge of development and management of the project. Operations and maintenance of the solar park is provided by juwi Shizen Energy Operation Inc.. The produced electricity is sold to Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc. under the country’s Feed-in Tariff for renewable energy. The plant is scheduled to be fully operational by summer 2017.

For juw Shizen energy the Inshinomaki project is the second one built on a former golf course. At the end of May 2016 the company completed construction of a 25 megawatt solar power plant in Japan’s Iwate prefecture, also on a golf course.juwi Shizen Energy was founded in 2013 as a joint venture of Shizen Energy Inc., which develops renewable energy power plants and procures related funding, and juwi AG, a globally active renewable energy development and EPC company headquartered in Wörrstadt/Germany. Besides involvement in projects developed by Shizen Energy, the joint venture receives consignments for construction projects in EPC units.
