Role Summary
Responsible for the electrical design on large multidisciplinary projects with knowledge and experience to act as Lead Electrical Design Engineer on projects within the Energy sector and specifically renewable projects including Wind and Solar. Knowledge and proven application in all general electrical and solar power project design including any statutory aspects. Responsibility of leadership of electrical discipline and the renewable disciplines. Ensuring the ability to comply with timely submission of deliverable of electrical and renewable discipline with utmost Quality. Able to innovate and challenge standard practices. Generate preliminary conceptual idea and shape them into detailed designs. Diversely experienced to conceive , conceptualise and design the projects. Liaising with the leads of other disciplines for successful engineering execution of renewable projects. Good communicator who can integrate well as a real team player and who sees beyond the standard approach to design delivery. Maintain good relations with internal/external customers without compromising the interests of the division and the company.
Responsibilities
Primarily shall include the basic/detailed design engineering for the electrical discipline activities – eg preparation of design basis reports/design information memorandums, sizing, specs for MCC/switch gear panels, motors , transformers and other electrical equipment/systems – within budget. Proficient in the electrical design aspects for basic, detailed and review engineering of Renewable power projects. Work closely with CAD technicians in the development of single line diagrams, layouts, MCC configurations. Able to understand, verify , analyse and implement design modification requests / deviations etc – requested by client/contractors/consultants. Ability to independently design, lead and manage a team of solar power projects ( either PV or CSP ) Knowledge of wind power projects is advantageous. Preparation of specifications, evaluation of contractors bids and vendor negotiation. Familiarity with all relevant and currently practising international codes and standards for electrical and renewable projects such as BS, IEC,IEEE etc and able to learn and understand clients standards and specs. Capable of multi-tasking and managing multiple projects with the ability to predict the time required to complete the deliverable. Production of design risk assessments and experienced with all relevant HSE legislation. Acquaintance to transmission networks will be an added advantage. Self starter and able to manage relations with internal /external customers. co-ordinate with all disciplines for design input and deliverable. Interact with Project Managers. Team player able to communicate efficiently with team and motivate/lead the discipline/project team to success. Responsible for efficient utilisation of resources. Guide team to maintain document library and data base for all designs, drawings and projects. Monitor and assess training and capability requirements. Responsible for the quality of technical deliverable complying with WSP standards. Continual improvement and optimisation and ways to innovate and create cost effective methods for deliverable. Comply to the allocated budget. Ensure the designs comply with company health , safety and standards.
Key Competencies / Skills
Mandatory skills
Working from conceptual studies through to details design in electrical discipline in the Energy Industry.
Good understanding of design of electrical systems up to 33KV, LV/MV Power & lighting systems, cable sizing, routing and containment, Substation layouts including panel design and layout.
Good understanding of fibre optic cable routing and requirements for Solar projects. Sound In-depth knowledge of solar projects and solar systems including solar PV control systems & telecommunications.
Sound knowledge of Electrical safety norms. Excellent spoken and written English and excellent interpersonal skills.
Willingness to travel in India and overseas as and when required.
