Shri Piyush Goyal took over as New Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Mines here today in presence of Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, new Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Drinking Water & Sanitation. This is in addition to Shri Goyal’s current charge as Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Tomar said that Shri Piyush Goyal is a capable minister who has proven his worth by leading Power, Coal and RE sectors to extraordinary growth in last two years. Shri Tomar gave his best wishes and said that I am confident that Mines sector will touch new heights under the capable leadership of Shri Goyal.

Congratulating Shri Tomar for bigger role at Rural Development Ministry, Shri Piyush Goyal said that Shri Tomar has done outstanding job by improving the basic infrastructure of mining sector in the country. “All we had to do now is to carry his work forward”, Shri Goyal added.

Talking to media about his future plans for the Mines Ministry, Shri Goyal said that he expects addition to country’s GDP by one percent in next one to two years from mining sector. The Minister said that his focus will be in increasing transparency and economic growth of the sector. He also assured that very soon he will be having dialogue with all the stakeholders for creating a future roadmap of growth and development in this sector.
