Signing of Grant Agreement with Guyana:Contributing to climate change mitigation through the achievement of an efficient, sustainable power supply
On June 27, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Republic of Guyana in Georgetown, to provide grant aid of up to 1.848 billion yen forthe Project for the Introduction of Renewable Energy and the Improvement of Power System.
Under this project, the power transmission and distribution equipment will be augmented in and around Georgetown, the capital city, and renewable energy and energy conservation equipment will be installed in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, which is headquartered in Guyana. These measures are intended to improve both the efficiency and sustainability of the power supply with the aim of thereby contributing to climate change mitigation. By showcasing such renewable energy and energy conservation technologies in the main office of CARICOM, which has 14 member countries and one member territory, it is hoped that the project will have a ripple effect on neighboring countries.
