State-owned Singareni Collieries Comany Limited (SCCL) on Wednesday decided to set up 300 MW capacity solar power plants in the first phase.

Chairman and Managing Director N Sridhar, who conducted a detailed meeting with the Singareni Advisory Company of Solar Energy Corporation (India) at Singareni Bhavan here, said that as part of construction of 300 MW capacity solar power plants, the mining company has decided to construct solar power plants in four areas under phase-I.

These include solar power plants at Yellandu (60 MW), Ramagundam-3 division (50 MW), Manuguru (30 MW) and 10 MW installed capacity in Singareni Thermal Power plant.

Depending on the installed capacity, the General Managers at the areas have already identified five acre land for one each MW and the construction of the plants was only pending, said the CMD.

Before inviting tenders across the country in the next 10 days for construction of solar power plants , he asked the officials concerned to frame the guidelines for the same.

Solar Energy India Director Mishra and Singareni officials participated in the meeting.

SCCL has 11 coal divisions in the region and the management wants to set up solar plants in each division.

The setting up of solar power plants in Singareni region would help the management to save at least Rs 24 crore per annum. Presently, the Singareni CColleries Company Limited is buying power from TS Transco. SCCL’s thermal power plant at Jaipur in Mancherial district has the capacity to produce 1,200 MW.
