SolarReserve, a leading global energy developer with 246 megawatts of solar capacity already on-line in South Africa, has worked with Netcare Limited to roll out commercial sized solar PV rooftop installations at fifteen of its facilities, namely at the Netcare 911 head office in Midrand and fourteen Medicross family medical and dental centres across the country. The sites combined deliver about 720 kilowatts peak of solar power, with a cumulative production of over 950 megawatt-hours per year – saving 34,354 tons of CO2 emissions annually.

Energy security, cost savings, and reduced environmental impact

SolarReserve’s alternative clean energy solutions are helping Netcare meet the goals of their environmental sustainability strategy to reduce their carbon footprint and ensure the security of the supply of electricity required by their high-acuity operations, which is critical in delivering the best patient experience. Actively managing their dependency on municipal power during standard tariff periods by securing a portion of their power supply from a clean, renewable power source that they own results in direct and indirect cost savings, reduced environmental impact and better management of risk related to future municipal tariff uncertainty.

“SolarReserve is committed to helping businesses across Africa thrive by offering predictable, long-term energy rates that protect them from rising electricity costs and price volatility,” said Jason Gerber, Project Manager at SolarReserve.

“SolarReserve’s worldwide reach and proven experience in developing solar power projects gives businesses the advantage of a global company with the assurance of a local presence,” added Alistair Jessop, SolarReserve’s Senior Vice President of Development.

SolarReserve’s Energy Solutions division in South Africa provides turnkey, grid-tied and off-grid solar photovoltaic (PV) rooftop, ground-mount, and carport solutions to South African commercial and industrial entities that will significantly reduce their energy costs, carbon footprint and provide predictability in terms of budgets. The company’s in-house team takes care of every part of the project, including financing, custom system engineering, installation and ongoing system maintenance and monitoring.

Partnering with an industry leader

SolarReserve has 246 megawatts of solar capacity installed and operating in South Africa, an additional 100 megawatts of solar with energy storage awarded by the South Africa Department of Energy, and 450 megawatts bid into the latest round of bidding in South Africa. SolarReserve’s experienced team of power project professionals has assembled an extensive global development portfolio of 13 gigawatts across the world’s most attractive, high growth renewable energy markets. The company currently has more than $1.8 billion USD (R24.4 billion) of projects in operation worldwide.
