A three -day training session on ‘Energy Access Using Renewable Technology’ kicked off today at the National Institute of Information and Technology (NIELIT), Akampat, Imphal held under the sponsorship of the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) in association with Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA) and NIELIT.

At the inaugural session, Director of MANIREDA L Manglem graced as the
chief guest while Executive Director of NIELIT Th Prameshwar was the functional president. Former Chairman of Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (Manipur and Mizoram) Shyamsunder Ningombam and Director of Manipur Science and Technology (MASTECH) Th Surendranath attended as guests of honour.

Topics like the conservation of energy and emphasis on use of solar and other renewable energy sources were deliberated by experts from different fields at the inaugural session.

L Manglem stated that with ever increasing population requirement of energy has increased. But conventional form of energy sources like coal, petroleum products and other non renewable energy sources are depleting. To combat the energy crisis, we have to look out for other renewable source of energy which is abundantly available like solar energy, wind, water etc, he said.

Th Prameshwar said, organizing such awareness and training programme is to show to the people that it is not hard to conserve and preserve our existing energy with simple change of habits. The participants will spread the methods and techniques taught during the three day long training session to their near and dear ones and further pass on the message.

Altogether 30 participants from different walks of life will take part in the three day long awareness training session.
