The company is receiving this honor in recognition of its sixth annual Sustainability Report, released in early 2016. Viridian’s Sustainability Report shows its customers avoiding carbon emissions that equate to recycling more than 50.5 billion 2-liter plastic bottles, enough to circle more than three times around the sun. The report also highlights Viridian’s unwavering commitment to giving back both locally and globally, including the completion of a five-year pledge to plant 5,000 trees in threatened areas of the Amazon rainforest, and year six of a 7 Continents in 7 Years journey, that brought solar light and a playing field to a neglected village in Albania.
Rooted in transparency and integrity, Viridian has released a Sustainability Report since its inception in 2009, leading a growing trend with companies worldwide that has been identified by EY, one of the organizations that reviews Viridian’s responsible energy purchases. In the report, Viridian discloses the type, tier and serial number of every Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) the company purchased to support its customers’ usage, as well as carbon offsets purchased on behalf of Simply Right™ natural gas customers and to mitigate the effects of corporate travel.
