Works relating to phase-1 of the NTPC Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) with an installed capacity of 1,600 MW have commenced. As per the provisions of AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, the NTPC will set up 4,000 MW power plant in Telangana. The units (2X800 MW) are likely to be synchronised by February, 2020.Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone for Phase-1 project on August 7 this year.

“We have already started the works on the first phase of STPP in Karimnagar district which will have 2X800 MW units. Boiler package for the first phase was awarded to BHEL and Turbine Generator Package awarded to Alstom Bharat Forge Private Limited,” VB Fadnavis, regional executive director (South) of NTPC Limited, said here on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters on the performance of NTPC in the southern region, Fadnavis said for the STPP Karimnagar, the ministry of coal had allocated Mandakini-B coal mine of Odisha and tapering coal linkage was available from SCCL.

“The cost of phase-1 project is estimated at `10,599 crore and the first unit is targeted to be commissioned by February, 2020,” Fadnavis said. Once, the ministry allots the coal linkage, the works would start on the Atchuthapuram plant.Fadnavis said the NTPC had 265 MW solar PV capacity, which includes 250 MW Anantapuram solar PV in AP, 5 MW solar PV at Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar islands.
