In Short : The National Company Law Tribunal has approved Adani Power’s ₹4,000 crore plan to acquire Vidarbha Industries Power Ltd, which operates a 600 MW thermal plant in Nagpur. This move aligns with Adani Power’s strategy to expand its power generation capacity from 17.6 GW to over 30 GW by 2030, strengthening its presence in India’s energy sector.

In Detail : The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in Mumbai has approved Adani Power’s resolution plan to acquire Vidarbha Industries Power Ltd (VIPL). The ₹4,000 crore deal marks a significant development in Adani Power’s expansion strategy within India’s energy sector.

Vidarbha Industries Power operates a 600 MW coal-based thermal power plant located near Nagpur in Maharashtra. The company had been undergoing insolvency proceedings, and the resolution plan proposed by Adani Power was approved by creditors earlier this year.

With this acquisition, Adani Power aims to strengthen its generation capacity and increase its foothold in western India. The company currently operates thermal power plants across several states and continues to grow its portfolio through acquisitions and greenfield projects.

The move aligns with Adani Power’s broader vision of increasing its total generation capacity from the current 17.6 GW to over 30 GW by 2030. This includes a mix of conventional and renewable energy assets, supporting India’s growing electricity demand.

The NCLT’s approval gives Adani Power access to a key strategic asset with existing infrastructure, reducing the lead time and investment typically needed for a new plant. It also helps revive a stressed asset, supporting the broader goals of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).

This acquisition forms part of Adani Group’s larger plan to play a leading role in India’s energy transition. The addition of the Nagpur plant enhances operational scale and positions the company to better meet industrial and grid power requirements in the region.
