The United States Department of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, in its findings mentioned that the average EV range today has nearly doubled compared to the level of 2011.
The year 2017, has seen electric mobility at the forefront of making news globally. Be it the global automakers announcing their plans on going electric, investments in future tech, countries setting target for adoption of EVs or be it a start-up leading the EV race.
At a time, when there is still scepticism over the ability of an EV’s performance over traditional ICE vehicle. The United States Department of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy findings show a positive sign in the development of electric-mobility.
According to the Energy Department, in 2011 there were just three different models of all-electric vehicles (AEV) available and their ranges on a full charge (according to the Environmental Protection Agency) spanned from 63 miles to 94 miles (101km to 151km).
By model year 2017, the number of AEV models increased to 15 and the available ranges expanded as well, from a minimum of 58 miles (93km) for the smart fortwo Electric Drive Coupe to a maximum of 335 miles (539km) for the Tesla Model S 100D.
It further states that from 2011 to 2017, the median of the AEV ranges increased by 41 miles (65km) – from 73 miles (117km) to 114 miles (183km).
We believe that going forward with the heavy investments seen around EVs along with mass-adoption will not only further accelerate higher range offerings in EVs but also bring down the cost substantially, thus creating a sustainable eco-system for mobility.
