According to reports, the first 250 MW unit of the Subansiri Lower project being built by the state-run hydropower behemoth NHPC would be operational by January 2024.

GUWAHATI : The the first 250 MW unit’s inauguration will now take place in December of this year instead of August, according to NHPC Subansiri. The choice was made following a review meeting in New Delhi chaired by Union Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister Shri R. K. Singh.

The meeting’s objective was to assess the development of the 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project in Arunachal Pradesh/Assam. 14 blocks of the project’s dam have already reached the top level of 210 metres, marking substantial gains in the dam-concreting process.

On May 31, Power and New and Renewable Energy Minister RK Singh convened a meeting to assess the status of the 2000 Mega Watt Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited is carrying out this project’s construction.

Moreover, the Minister went over the project’s safety considerations, construction progress, and the preparations that needed to be made for the impending monsoon season.

The project manager detailed safety considerations and the project’s readiness for the upcoming monsoon months, as well as the current state of the progress made in various work packages. Dam concreting has advanced the project significantly.

Following the review, Mr. Singh expressed his pleasure with the way the work was going and gave the NHPC the go-ahead to continue while taking all essential safety measures. It is anticipated that this project’s first 250 MW unit will be put into service in either December of this year or January of the next year.

On the other hand, recently, on April 2, nature is once more wreaked havoc on the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHP) of NHPC, which is being constructed at Gerukamukh close to the boundary of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

After more intense rains hit Lower Subansiri in Arunachal Pradesh, disaster struck the NHPC Hydro Project.

Notably, the intake tunnel for the project has been shut down because there are worries that the overflowing water that has been rushing out of the tunnel as a result of severe rain and a landslip would cause it to collapse.
