Hyderabad – The Telangana Government has targeted to achieve 5000 MW Power generation through non-conventional energy sources by 2019, Energy Minister B Jagadesh Reddy said on Monday.

Replying to questions in the house, Mr Reddy said to meet the growing demand and reduce the pollution, the state government has decided to encourage power generation through non-conventional energy sources in the state.

As a result during the last three years, 2,792 MW Solar power and 100.80 MW wind power was generated. As Solar power generation concerned, the Telangana state was ahead as compared to other states in the country. Of the total Solar Power generation of 2792 MW, one MW was producing by the Genco and remaining from the private sector, the Minister said.

He said during 2014, the Solar Power generation was 500 MW and supplying at the rate of Rs 6.29 to Rs 6.45. It was increased to 2792 MW and supplying at the rate of Rs 5.59 to 5.17 after formation of Telangana State.

The State Government has made an action plan to achieve cumulative target of 5000 MW by 2019, the Minister added.
