Andhra Pradesh Power Minister K Kala Venkata Rao on Wednesday requested Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal to sanction funds to carry out feeder segregation in rural areas under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana.

Participating in the two-day national power ministers’ conference in New Delhi, Kala Venkata Rao said segregation of agricultural feeders would cost of `4,000 crore and sought the support of the Central government in implementing the scheme.

Citing the huge renewable energy capacity additions undertaken in AP, Rao requested Goyal to sanction special procurement based incentives to AP DISCOMs for meeting the renewable power obligations targets. Principal Secretary (Energy) said the power utilities were fully geared up to meet any increase in power demand.

Outage Management System (OMS) to reduce outage durations at 33 KV Level, Monitoring and Tracking System (MATS) to monitor power theft and pilferage, Distribution Transformer Tracking System to track and replace failed transformers are being implemented, he said.

Key achievements of AP in power sector since 2014 including bringing down transmission and distribution losses to single digit, introduction of smart metering, online monitoring of feeder system, focus on non-conventional energy like highlighted in his presentation by Rao.
