The Net Energy Metering (NEM) mechanism would be introduced for industries and individuals, said Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.”The NEM which can be regarded as a Blue Ocean Strategy will encourage the use of new energy sources in the country,” he said at a Yayasan Hijau Malaysia (YaHijau) charity event yesterday. He said industries and individuals would be allowed to generate their own electricity at their buildings and dwellings respectively, from various sources.

They would be charged the rate difference on electricity supplied from the main grid and from their own power source, he said. Also present at the function held at the Palace of the Golden Horses, Seri Kembangan near here, were his deputy Datuk Seri Dr James Dawos Mamit and YaHijau chairman Kelly Ang Lay Chieng. On YaHijau, Ongkili said the foundation is responsible for promoting and encouraging green living practices and technology.”Companies that want to contribute funds will qualify for tax exemption of up to 10%, while individual donors, up to seven percent,” he said.
