Oman aims to transform its power sector through a pivot to renewables. Seven wind and solar projects are planned to add an additional 1.9GW of capacity by end-2026.

The Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC), Oman’s state-led power transmission firm, has unveiled a roadmap to add 1.9GW of renewable energy capacity through seven projects by the end of 2026.

OETC, a subsidiary of Oman’s Nama Holding (51%) and the State Grid Corporation of China (49%), recently published its ‘Five Year Annual Transmission Capability Statement (2022-2026)’. This sets out how the seven planned projects will provide power for Oman’s Main Interconnected System (MIS), which supplies the capital Muscat and northern Oman, as well as the separate Dhofar system in southern Oman. Plans are also underway to link up the two grids through a new 400kv interconnector by end-2026.
