Reliance Launches Advanced Solar Manufacturing Facility to Boost India’s Green Energy Transition – EQ

In Detail : Reliance Industries has commissioned its first solar module manufacturing line at the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex in Jamnagar, Gujarat. This new facility marks a significant step in the company’s green energy ambitions, with an initial production capacity of 10 GW per year. The plant uses advanced heterojunction technology (HJT) solar modules, which offer higher efficiency compared to conventional solar modules.
The facility is designed to expand to 20 GW in response to growing demand for solar energy solutions. Spanning over 5,000 acres, the complex integrates the entire solar production chain, including polysilicon, ingot, wafer, cell, and module manufacturing, along with the production of glass and polyolefin elastomer components. This end-to-end integration strengthens the supply chain and supports large-scale solar deployments across the country.
This initiative is part of Reliance’s broader $10 billion green energy roadmap, which the company unveiled in 2021. The roadmap includes significant investments in renewable energy, energy storage, and hydrogen technologies. As part of its environmental goals, Reliance aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2035 and contribute to India’s target of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
A key advantage of the new manufacturing line is its alignment with India’s upcoming mandate requiring all clean energy projects to use solar PV modules made from locally-produced cells. The policy, set to take effect in June 2026, aims to reduce dependence on imports, particularly from China, and bolster domestic manufacturing capabilities. Reliance’s facility is well-positioned to meet this regulatory requirement.
In addition to solar manufacturing, Reliance is also working on a 30 GWh battery manufacturing facility, which will support energy storage solutions crucial for renewable energy integration. The company is also developing hydrogen electrolyser and fuel cell systems as part of its commitment to sustainable energy solutions, further expanding its clean energy portfolio.
With this new facility, Reliance Industries is poised to play a major role in India’s renewable energy transition.
