Major Chinese PV product manufacturer Risen Energy announced on November 19 that it plans to set up a factory site for manufacturing high-efficiency PV cells in Chuzhou. With a production capacity of 10GW per year, the new cell project will round out the company’s existing local manufacturing operation.

Risen in its announcement also stated that the company’s current production capacity for PV cells and PV modules is not sufficient to meet the very strong demand in the downstream portion of the supply chain. Once up and running, the new project will increase the company’s self-sufficiency for in-house cells and thereby improve the company’s bottom line. Chuzhou is prefecture-level city in China’s Anhui Province. The announcement was first picked by other Chinese renewable energy news websites.

Risen’s subsidiary in Anhui will be charge of implementing the project. The total investment in the project is currently estimated to reach around RMB 2.757 billion. The company pointed out that the actual investment amount could be different from this projection. The development of the project will be divided into two phases and is set to complete within 36 months. Again, the company stressed that this timeframe is subject to changes as well depending on actual conditions.
