Washington, D.C.: Today, Governor Cuomo signed the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act into law, one of the most aggressive renewable energy mandates in the United States. The historic law will require the state to procure 6 gigawatts of distributed solar by 2025 and for the state’s utilities to get 70% of its electricity from renewable energy by 2030.

Following is a statement from Abigail Ross Hopper, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association.

“This legislation will encourage significant growth of the solar industry in the Empire State for years to come. We commend Governor Cuomo and the State Legislature for their commitment to using solar to eliminate emissions, create well-paying jobs and protect public health and low-income communities. Solar will undoubtedly play a major role in helping New York reach its climate goals. This law will go a long way to making the 2020s the decade where solar combines with storage, electric vehicles and other technologies to reshape our energy future.”
