Solar Frontier, the world’s largest CIS solar energy solutions provider, announced today that its recently completed 2.3 MW project in the Netherlands, constructed in collaboration with solar energy companies KiesZon and Ikaros Solar, has surpassed its July-November energy generation target by 6%. This means that thyssenkrupp Materials, which uses the buildings as warehouses, will now be able to procure more energy at a lower cost than obtaining electricity sourced from the grid.The project, which is located in the Dutch municipalities of Veghel and Zwijndrecht, consists of two rooftop installations on warehouses belonging to thyssenkrupp Materials Nederland. Using 30 power inverters and 13,472 CIS modules in total, this is one of the largest solar energy projects in the Netherlands to date.

KiesZon, owner of the solar power plants for the next 15 years, selected Solar Frontier’s CIS modules for their ability to produce a higher energy yield in real-world conditions compared to more commonly used crystalline silicon modules. Ikaros Solar provided engineering, procurement and construction (“EPC”) services. Leading North American distributor of production materials, thyssenkrupp Material, leased out the rooftops of its warehouses and will procure the energy generated by both systems to reduce its electricity costs and help advance its environmental initiatives.

For this project, Solar Frontier started shipping its CIS modules at the end of May of this year. Ikaros Solar began installing the systems in June, and shortly after, both rooftop systems were connected to the grid in July.The reliability of Solar Frontier’s CIS modules in high ammonia environments was also a deciding factor for their selection in this project. Considering thyssenkrupp Material’s 32,000 square foot warehouse in Veghel is located near a seagull breeding ground, solar system owners are subsequently burdened with bird droppings impacting the performance of their modules. Solar Frontier’s CIS modules are certified for resistance to environments with high ammonia content, and as their output indicates, are continuing to perform well in this environment.

“Ikaros Solar selected Solar Frontier´s CIS modules for their proven high energy yields, specifically in our climate, as has been seen in other projects like the IKEA store in Zwolle,” said Yves Devis, CEO of Ikaros Solar. “For us, it is important to work closely with a partner like Solar Frontier, which is able to guarantee the yields and the reliability of its modules for our projects.”
