Sungrow adds to +700 ESS system deliveries with 30MW Germany project
Sungrow, best known as a maker of solar inverters, has been awarded a contract to supply complete energy storage systems (ESS) to a 30MW / 30MWh project in Germany, split across three sites.
The company is by various metrics a market leader in the global supply of solar inverters for larger-scale applications. In a recent report taken from our sister site PV Tech, senior news editor Mark Osborne found that in addition to its inverter supply business, increasing revenues are being netted by two other divisions of the company: energy storage and EPC (engineering, procurement, construction).
In fact, Mark found that energy storage revenues are up 500% year-on-year for the company, which also has a joint venture (JV) tied up with Samsung SDI for the design, development and deployment of energy storage systems.
As of the end of 2018, this equated to 720 ESSs delivered worldwide, the company said as it announced today that German clean energy project developer and contractor Smart Power signed a deal for Sungrow to supply the three separate 10MW / 10MWh systems, which will provide frequency regulation services to the local grid as well as some energy shifting. Location of the project(s) has not been disclosed.
They include power conversion and control systems, alongside lithium-ion batteries. Sungrow said meeting Germany’s “rigid and complex grid code” was a challenge, while Smart Power said the two parties have now been working together for two years, selecting the company as supplier to this project based partly on Sungrow’s “flexibility in the face of diverse requirements”.
