(Beijing, May 17, 2017) Fiji’s Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama attended the “Belt and Road” Forum for International Cooperation in China. During the Forum, Prime Minister Bainimarama met with Su Huaisheng, the Deputy General Manager of North China Branch of Panda Green Energy Group Limited (00686.HK, “Panda Green Energy “, formerly known as United Photovoltaics Group Limited), who is also one of the responsible officers in charge of Fiji Panda Power Plant project. Bainimarama said that they hope Panda Power Plant project to be built in Fiji soon, holding hands with countries alongside “Belt and Road” to jointly combat climate change.
On May 16, the leader of the State Council met with Bainimarama at the Great Hall of the People. Regarding climate change issues, China always holds a responsible attitude towards dealing with climate change and implementing the Paris Agreement on climate change with the international society. This is not only China’s obligation as a responsible developing country but an inevitable path for China to transform and update its economy.
During the conversation with Su Huaisheng, Bainimarama said as the Paradise-on-Earth, and the host of the 23rd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 23) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Fiji is willing to speed up the green ecological development and energy structure adjustment. Therefore, investment in Fiji from excellent companies such as Panda Green Energy would be more than welcome. Panda Green Energy’s joining enables Fiji with the access to cleaner and greener energy, thus becoming the model of coping with climate change. Bainimarama hoped that Panda Power Plan, as a signature project, will land in Fiji soon to demonstrate Fiji’s determination in dealing with climate change.
As the leading global eco-development solutions provider, Panda Green Energy is committed to providing green energy integrated solutions including wind power, solar power, hydropower, and energy storage for “Belt and Road” related countries and areas. During the “Belt and Road” Forum for International Cooperation, the United Nations and the Chinese government formally signed the Action Plan to Jointly Promote “Belt and Road” Construction, Panda Power Plant is also introduced as one of the “Belt and Road” projects under the Action Plan. The Fiji Panda Power Plant is designed with the image of “Giant Panda” holding Rugby, the Fiji’s national ball, in hands.
In the future, Panda Green Energy will continue to carry out more overseas exploration and cooperation, establish good strategic partnerships with countries along the “Belt and Road” routes. It will also construct a strategic synergy by coordinating domestic and overseas enterprises to speed up the “Going Out” progress for China’s outstanding green productivity and eventually realize the United Nations’ development goal of “Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all “.
