John Kerry noted that many Americans remain “absolutely committed” to the 2015 Paris climate accord despite President Donald Trump’s threat to abandon it.

Former US secretary of state John Kerry has termed the absence of American leadership at a key climate change summit in Paris as a “disgrace”.

“It’s very disappointing, it’s worse than disappointing, it’s actually a disgrace when you consider the facts, the science, the common sense, all the work that’s been done,” Kerry said.

He, however, said tried to reassure international players that Americans do want to fight global warming.

Kerry said that many Americans remain “absolutely committed” to the 2015 Paris climate accord despite President Donald Trump’s threat to abandon it.

A central aim of Tuesday’s climate summit in Paris is to persuade financiers that investing in clean energy is a good long-term business move.

Kerry said 38 states have legislation pushing renewable energy and 90 major American cities support the Paris accord, adding, “We’re going to stay on track.”
