Solar projects are being set up in MP under the RESCO model as part of the Rooftop Solar Program of the centre with support from The World Bank and International Solar Alliance.

New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (MPUVNL) has invited bids for setting up rooftop solar Photo Voltaic projects of 10.8 Megawatt (Mw) capacity for industries located near Bhopal. As part of the tender, 164 industrial beneficiaries will procure solar power under Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) model.

“This is the first solar rooftop tender for industries under demand aggregation model in India, under which developers were selected following a reverse e-auction process. Discovered solar tariff is Rs 4.61 per unit in comparison with DISCOM’s tariff of more than Rs 7.5 per unit. The tender aims to save Rs 2.39 crore during its first year and a cumulative Rs 233 crore over 25 years,” an official statement read.

The beneficiaries include small, medium and large industries having different financial profile, contract demand, electricity consumption profile and rooftop size. Also, the industries are grouped into three packages of 3.6 Mw each. There was no subsidy component involved in the project in order to ensure discovery of a single tariff for a broad range of Industries including MSMEs.

Solar projects are being set up in MP under the RESCO model as part of the Rooftop Solar Program of the centre with support from The World Bank and International Solar Alliance. The model allows the consumer supply of solar power with zero upfront investment and at rates lower than the prevailing DISCOM rates.

The beneficiary consumer pays for the electricity generated by the selected contractor who undertakes design, supply and installation, along with comprehensive Operation & Maintenance for 25 years.
