MP Minister Backs Rooftop Solar, Urges Citizens to Embrace PM Surya Ghar Scheme for Cheaper, Reliable Power – EQ

In Detail : Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has urged citizens to switch to rooftop solar power under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. He emphasized that the move would help residents significantly reduce their electricity expenses while gaining access to a more reliable power supply.
The scheme, launched by the central government, provides up to 300 units of free electricity per month for eligible households. It also offers substantial financial assistance to cover the upfront cost of solar system installations, making clean energy more accessible to the average consumer.

Under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, families installing rooftop solar panels with a capacity of up to 3 kilowatts are eligible for subsidies of up to ₹78,000. This subsidy greatly reduces the financial burden on homeowners and encourages the widespread adoption of solar technology.
One of the scheme’s key benefits is the inclusion of net-metering. This system allows households to export excess solar power back to the grid, effectively turning homes into mini power producers and generating income from unused energy.
The Minister highlighted that rooftop solar not only reduces costs but also enhances energy reliability. With growing demand and strain on the conventional power grid, solar power provides a dependable alternative, especially during peak usage periods.
He further pointed out that the government’s solar push also alleviates pressure on state subsidies by empowering citizens to generate their own electricity. This makes the initiative both economically and environmentally beneficial in the long run.
