In Short : The Maharashtra government has approved diverting 4.90 hectares of reserved forest for a 100 MW hybrid renewable project at Middle Vaitarna Dam. Combining 20 MW hydro and 80 MW floating solar, it will generate 208 million units annually. Developed via DBFOT, BMC will buy power at ₹4.75/unit for 25 years, marking Mumbai’s first major hybrid renewable project.
In Detail : The Maharashtra government has approved the diversion of 4.90 hectares of reserved forest for Mumbai’s first hybrid renewable energy project at Middle Vaitarna Dam.
The 100 MW project will integrate 20 MW of hydropower with 80 MW of floating solar capacity.
It is expected to generate 208 million units of clean energy annually once commissioned.
Developed under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) model, the project ensures efficient execution and management.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will procure power at ₹4.75 per unit for 25 years.
This initiative is set to boost Mumbai’s renewable energy capacity while cutting carbon emissions.
