This development marks the transition from preliminary groundwork to core construction activities, highlighting tangible progress on one of India’s largest clean energy investments.

The Andhra Pradesh government views the project as a cornerstone of its long-term vision to transform the state into a global hub for green energy production and exports. By positioning itself as the “Saudi Arabia of green energy,” the state aims to play a leading role in supplying clean fuels to international markets.

The project is designed as a fully integrated clean energy ecosystem. It will be supported by large-scale solar and wind power generation, ensuring a steady supply of renewable electricity essential for continuous green hydrogen production.

To address intermittency challenges, the project includes pumped hydro storage, enabling round-the-clock renewable power. This feature strengthens the reliability and commercial viability of large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia production.

At the core of the complex lies advanced electrolyser capacity, which will be used to produce green hydrogen. This hydrogen will then be converted into green ammonia, a more easily transportable form suitable for long-distance exports.

The project is being developed through the transformation of an existing fertiliser plant, a strategy that helps reduce execution risks and speeds up implementation. The first phase is targeted for commissioning by 2027, with full-scale operations planned by the end of the decade.

Strong international interest has already emerged, with long-term offtake agreements signed with European buyers and discussions underway with partners in Asia. These arrangements signal growing global confidence in India as a future supplier of green fuels.

Beyond exports, the project is expected to deliver substantial economic benefits to Andhra Pradesh. It will generate thousands of jobs during construction and operations, while also strengthening port-led logistics and industrial infrastructure.

As the project advances toward execution, it reinforces India’s broader clean energy and decarbonisation goals. If delivered as planned, AM Green’s Kakinada complex could become a defining symbol of Andhra Pradesh’s rise as a global leader in renewable energy and green fuel exports.
