Bihar Accelerates Green Energy Push with ₹5,337 Crore Investment and 2,357 MW Capacity Boost – EQ
In Short : The Bihar government has signed MoUs worth ₹5,337 crore to develop 2,357 MW of green energy under its new Renewable Energy and Pumped Storage Policies 2025. Key projects include a 116 MW battery storage system with L\&T, a 1,000 MW BESS by NTPC Green, and 1,000 MW solar installations by Avaada and SECI, boosting the state’s clean energy capacity.
In Detail : The Bihar government has taken a major step towards clean energy by signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹5,337 crore. These agreements aim to develop a total of 2,357 megawatts (MW) of green power capacity in the state.
The MoUs were signed under Bihar’s newly introduced Renewable Energy Policy 2025 and Pumped Storage Policy 2025. These policies were launched to attract large-scale private and public investment in the renewable sector.
Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL), in collaboration with Larsen & Toubro (L\&T), will set up a 116 MW/241 MWh battery energy storage system. This project will help stabilize power supply and store surplus energy.
Another significant MoU was signed with NTPC Green Energy Limited for establishing a massive 1,000 MW battery energy storage system (BESS). This facility will be crucial for grid balancing and meeting peak electricity demand.
Avaada Energy, a prominent private sector renewable firm, also committed to developing 500 MW of solar energy projects in Bihar. These projects are expected to boost local employment and enhance clean power access.
The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) signed a pact to develop another 500 MW of solar capacity. This adds to SECI’s growing renewable portfolio across Indian states.
The state’s new policies provide fiscal and regulatory incentives for developers, making Bihar a more attractive destination for renewable energy investments. These policies aim to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and lower carbon emissions.
Officials noted that these projects will not only provide cleaner energy but also generate economic activity and job opportunities across the state. The MoUs signal Bihar’s commitment to sustainable development.
With these developments, Bihar is positioning itself as a rising hub for green energy in eastern India. The state hopes to contribute meaningfully to India’s national clean energy goals.
