In Detail : Essar Green Mobility is aggressively expanding its green trucking business, targeting a $1 billion turnover over the next three years. The company aims to combine sustainable transport solutions with advanced logistics management, focusing on both environmental benefits and commercial viability. This expansion is part of Essar’s broader commitment to decarbonizing India’s freight sector.

The company plans to develop a 10,000-truck platform integrating LNG-powered long-haul trucks and electric short-haul trucks. Currently, around 700 LNG trucks are operational, demonstrating the viability of alternative fuels for long-distance transport. The platform is designed to scale rapidly to meet growing demand in freight and logistics.

LNG trucks offer significant environmental advantages, including nearly zero sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions and about 50% lower nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions compared to diesel vehicles. These trucks also provide fuel efficiency benefits, lowering operational costs for fleet operators while aligning with India’s climate goals.

Electric trucks will be deployed primarily for short-haul and urban deliveries, where zero emissions can make the most impact. Combined with LNG trucks for long-haul operations, this hybrid approach allows Essar Green Mobility to address the entire freight ecosystem with sustainable solutions.

To support this ambitious expansion, Essar is investing in fueling stations for LNG trucks and EV charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. The development of this ecosystem ensures that operational challenges are minimized and adoption barriers for fleet operators are reduced.

The company expects the platform to attract corporate clients seeking to lower their carbon footprint and meet sustainability targets. Green logistics is becoming a critical requirement in supply chains, and Essar’s integrated offering positions it as a leading provider of clean freight solutions.

Financially, the initiative is structured to achieve both scale and profitability. With anticipated savings on fuel and maintenance costs, combined with incentives for clean energy adoption, Essar aims to create a sustainable business model that can be replicated across India.

This expansion aligns with India’s national goals to reduce emissions from transport, a sector that contributes a significant portion of the country’s greenhouse gas output. By combining LNG and electric trucks, Essar Green Mobility is supporting a cleaner, more efficient freight ecosystem.
