In Short : Haryana plans to solarise all agricultural tube wells under the PM-KUSUM scheme to cut diesel use and boost clean irrigation. The government will set up solar feeders and use public land for installations. With over 1.58 lakh solar pumps already deployed, the state targets 70,000 more by FY 2025–26, aiming to support farmers and reduce carbon emissions.

In Detail : The Haryana government has announced a comprehensive plan to solarise all agricultural tube wells in the state under the central PM-KUSUM scheme. This initiative aims to reduce farmers’ reliance on conventional electricity and diesel for irrigation by providing a sustainable and eco-friendly power alternative.

As part of the plan, the state will implement the solarisation in phases. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed officials to prioritize this transition, ensuring that the shift to solar energy is both efficient and widespread. The move is expected to significantly lower power costs for the agricultural sector.

Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) will play a key role in the initiative. It has been tasked with identifying five-acre plots in every district to set up solar feeder plants. These feeders will directly supply solar power to tube wells, ensuring a reliable and independent source of energy for irrigation.

In one of the flagship projects, a 300-acre solar plant is being established in Ganni Kheda gram panchayat near the Raiwali sub-station in Panchkula district. This plant will serve as a major source of power for agricultural tube wells in the surrounding region, demonstrating the scalability of such initiatives.

The government also plans to utilize existing public land such as bus stands, college grounds, and mandis to install solar panels. This approach aims to optimize land use while expanding solar infrastructure to support farmers across Haryana.

Since the inception of PM-KUSUM in the state, over 1.58 lakh solar pumps have already been installed. For the fiscal year 2025–26, the government has set a target of deploying 70,000 additional solar pumps with a budget allocation of ₹600 crore. This initiative is expected to ease financial pressure on farmers and contribute to Haryana’s environmental goals.
