In Short : The IEA has strengthened its cooperation with the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) to enhance global energy system resilience. The partnership focuses on improving infrastructure planning, mitigating climate and disaster risks, and supporting countries in building robust, secure, and sustainable energy networks. This collaboration aims to ensure reliable energy access amid rising climate challenges and evolving global energy demands.
In Detail : The International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen cooperation on energy system resilience, reflecting rising risks from extreme weather events and natural hazards.
The MoU was signed 3 December 2025 in New Delhi by IEA Deputy Executive Director Mary Burce Warlick and CDRI Director General Amit Prothi, with a focus on enhancing analytical work to support resilient energy infrastructure planning and investment and facilitate technical exchanges to inform policymakers.
CDRI is a global partnership of governments, UN agencies, development banks, the private sector, and knowledge institutions that promotes infrastructure resilience to climate and disaster risks through sustainable development.
In a recent G20 address, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the important role of development in supporting resilience, an important part of CDRI’s work. The IEA recently convened a high-level roundtable in Paris on Strengthening Energy Infrastructure Resilience, bringing together senior policymakers and industry leaders, including CDRI, to highlight the importance of resilience measures to strengthen systems against risks.
“As risks to energy systems intensify, strengthening infrastructure resilience is no longer a choice, it is fundamental to protecting energy security, economic stability and national well-being,” said IEA Deputy Executive Director Mary Burce Warlick. “Closer cooperation with CDRI is an important step in this area as we help countries build more resilient energy systems.”
CDRI Director General Amit Prothi said: “Our new partnership with the IEA will unite our expertise to support development of secure and sustainable energy systems that can withstand climate change and disasters, ensuring communities have reliable, adaptable, and resilient energy access.”
The MoU marks a concrete step toward strengthening international collaboration on developing the evidence based and practical tools needed to help countries manage rising climate and disaster risks.
