JSW MG Motor India & LICO Materials launches BESS using reconditioned EV batteries – EQ
In Short : JSW MG Motor India and LICO Materials have launched a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) using reconditioned MG ZS EV batteries under ‘Project Revive.’ Available in 18kWh to 300kWh capacities, the BESS cuts operational costs by 60% and promotes battery reuse. The initiative supports sustainability by extending battery life and advancing India’s circular energy economy.
In Detail : JSW MG Motor India and LICO Materials have partnered to develop a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) utilising reconditioned MG ZS electric vehicle batteries. JSW MG Motor India presented its fourth Project Revive venture on January 30, 2025 after its initial announcement. Customers receive storage solutions between 18kWh and 300kWh across these options.
Advanced safety features
LICO Materials as a subsidiary of Epsilon Group collaborated on a new development which integrates smart thermal management and immersion oil cooling as part of its safety features. According to the company’s statements the system reaches a fourfold longer lifespan than standard solutions while operators can decrease costs up to 60 per cent.
The storage system from LICO Materials exists in three distinct variations designed for household users and commercial businesses in addition to industrial companies. The storage systems exist within a temperature range from -20°C to 60°C and come with a warranty period of five years.
Strengthening battery recycling efforts
JSW MG Motor India enhances its recycling efforts by creating strategic alliances with Vision Mechatronics, BATX, IIT Delhi, Lohum, and TERI to develop industrial UPS, off-grid charging and BESS projects.
The EV market growth in India requires sustainable battery management solutions for retired batteries so this initiative focuses on this quickly expanding sector. The EV ecosystem prioritises both environment protection and waste reduction by focusing on battery recycling and repurposing.
