Jupiter Electric Mobility Launches Modular 10 ft and 20 ft Containerised BESS to Boost India’s Clean Energy Infrastructure – EQ

In Detail : Jupiter Electric Mobility (JEM), a subsidiary of Jupiter Wagons Ltd, has launched its 10 ft and 20 ft containerised Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), marking a milestone in India’s clean energy sector. These modular, air-cooled systems offer capacities ranging from 241 kWh to 3 MWh and are designed for applications like solar storage, diesel generator replacement, energy shifting, and backup power in the Commercial & Industrial segment.
Developed entirely in-house, JEM’s BESS units reflect the company’s vertically integrated approach, covering container fabrication, battery manufacturing, and system integration. This end-to-end control over energy storage product design positions JEM among the few Indian companies with comprehensive expertise in BESS solutions, ensuring quality, reliability, and scalability for diverse energy applications.
The first 10 ft BESS unit has been delivered in partnership with GMMCO, a C.K. Birla Group company, to Greenlit, a Mumbai-based subsidiary of Recube. Greenlit focuses on decarbonisation in the events, entertainment, and hospitality sectors. The deployment demonstrates the commercial viability of containerised BESS solutions for industries seeking sustainable and reliable power alternatives.
JEM plans to expand its collaboration with GMMCO to roll out additional sustainable energy solutions across India. Additionally, the company is set to export its first 20 ft BESS unit to Africa in October 2025, marking its entry into global markets. This move underscores JEM’s ambitions to scale its clean energy solutions internationally.
To meet growing demand, JEM’s Indore facility will scale annual production capacity from 1 GWh to 5 GWh over the next three years. This expansion ensures sufficient supply to support both domestic deployment and international exports, positioning JEM as a key player in India’s energy storage industry while addressing the country’s increasing renewable energy integration needs.
The new BESS units are engineered for durability in harsh conditions, easy transport, and scalable deployment. They adhere to stringent IEC standards, with system-level certifications underway. The robust design allows industries to deploy containerised storage solutions efficiently, supporting reliable, round-the-clock energy access while enabling flexible integration with existing infrastructure.
Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of Jupiter Group, stated that the launch of modular 10 ft and 20 ft containerised BESS marks an important milestone for JEM’s Battery Division. He emphasized that the systems highlight the company’s in-house design, engineering, and manufacturing capabilities, demonstrating technological competence and readiness for expanding clean energy infrastructure.
Pankaj Kumar Jha, Senior Vice President – Energy and Transportation Business at GMMCO, added that the partnership leverages GMMCO’s pan-India reach and energy expertise. Together with JEM, the collaboration aims to help industries transition to sustainable, round-the-clock clean power solutions, enhancing operational efficiency and supporting India’s renewable energy goals.
