The lack of sufficient energy storage infrastructure, such as battery energy storage systems (BESS), is a key barrier. Without the ability to store excess solar power generated during the day, the state cannot extend clean energy usage into non-solar hours.

To address this issue, Kerala will need to invest in storage technologies and diversify its renewable portfolio. Expanding energy storage capacity will be essential to achieving round-the-clock sustainability and reducing reliance on external power sources.
