L&T Secures ₹5,000 Crore Grid Projects to Power Middle East’s Renewable Energy Expansion – EQ
In Short : Larsen & Toubro’s Power Transmission & Distribution business has secured large grid infrastructure orders worth ₹2,500–5,000 crore in the Middle East. The projects include a 400 kV substation linking the UAE and Oman, several 132 kV substations, and 380 kV transmission lines in Saudi Arabia. These contracts strengthen regional grid interconnections and support renewable energy integration across the Gulf.
In Detail : Larsen & Toubro’s Power Transmission & Distribution business has won major grid infrastructure orders across the Middle East, valued between ₹2,500 crore and ₹5,000 crore. These projects mark another milestone in L&T’s expanding global footprint and reinforce its leadership in high-voltage transmission and substation development across the region.
One of the key contracts includes building a 400 kV substation in the UAE that will establish a direct interconnection with Oman. This new link will replace the existing 220 kV system, significantly enhancing transmission capacity and improving energy exchange reliability between the two countries.
The upgraded 400 kV grid will also form a crucial part of the GCC super-grid, designed to improve power stability and cross-border energy flow within the Gulf region. The project will help balance generation loads and ensure efficient power utilization across multiple nations.
In addition to the UAE-Oman interconnection, L&T has secured contracts for several 132 kV substations at different locations in the Middle East. These substations will help meet the region’s growing electricity demand driven by population growth, urban expansion, and industrial development.
In Saudi Arabia, the company will construct 380 kV overhead transmission lines on a turnkey basis. These lines are critical for connecting renewable energy projects, such as large solar and wind farms, to the national grid and strengthening the country’s renewable integration strategy.
The projects demonstrate L&T’s strong capabilities in engineering, procurement, and construction of complex grid systems. With decades of experience and a strong regional presence, L&T continues to play a vital role in supporting sustainable energy transitions in the Middle East.
These developments are also aligned with regional goals to expand renewable energy capacity and enhance cross-border electricity cooperation. Improved grid connectivity is essential for managing demand fluctuations and ensuring uninterrupted power supply across countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council.
L&T’s success in securing these large-scale projects underscores its reputation for delivering technologically advanced and reliable infrastructure. The company’s contribution to modernizing energy systems helps nations reduce transmission losses, boost efficiency, and improve grid resilience.
By expanding high-voltage infrastructure across the Middle East, L&T is not only strengthening its business portfolio but also contributing to the region’s broader energy transformation. These projects mark an important step toward a more interconnected, efficient, and sustainable power network across the Gulf.
