In Short : Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has won an EPC contract to develop a 116 MW solar power plant integrated with a 241 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Kajra, Bihar. The project, awarded by SJVN Green Energy, aims to enhance renewable power reliability. L&T’s renewable arm will handle engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning under a turnkey model.

In Detail : Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a significant engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for a large-scale renewable energy project in Bihar. The contract involves developing a 116 MW solar power plant coupled with a 241 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Kajra in Lakhisarai district.

The project has been awarded by SJVN Green Energy Limited, a subsidiary of SJVN Limited. It aligns with India’s push toward integrating energy storage solutions with renewable energy sources to ensure grid stability and continuous power supply.

L&T’s Renewables arm, part of its Power Transmission & Distribution business, will execute the project on a turnkey basis. The scope includes design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of both the solar plant and the battery storage system.

The battery storage component of the project is particularly significant, as it allows for storing surplus solar energy during the day and supplying it during peak evening demand. This makes the project vital for improving reliability and flexibility in the power system.

The solar plant will utilize advanced photovoltaic technology and is expected to significantly boost the region’s clean energy generation capacity. The combination of solar and storage enhances energy security and supports the transition to a more sustainable energy model.

L&T stated that the project strengthens its position in the EPC space for integrated solar and storage solutions, which are expected to play a pivotal role in the decarbonization of India’s power sector.

With Bihar aiming to improve its renewable energy share, the project is a strategic addition to the state’s clean energy infrastructure. It also contributes to national targets for renewable energy capacity and storage integration by 2030.

The Kajra solar-plus-storage project is expected to create employment opportunities during its construction phase and support local economic development. It also reinforces SJVN’s commitment to building 25 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

This win adds to L&T’s growing portfolio of solar and hybrid renewable projects across India and underscores the company’s commitment to delivering high-impact infrastructure supporting India’s clean energy mission.
