In Short : Maharashtra’s new EV policy offers up to ₹2 lakh subsidies for electric vehicles, free tolls on key expressways, and mandates EV chargers every 25 km on highways. The policy aims for 30% EV adoption by 2030, includes tax exemptions, and supports infrastructure in residential and commercial buildings, promoting cleaner transport and reducing emissions across the state.

In Detail : Maharashtra has launched an ambitious Electric Vehicle (EV) policy aiming to boost adoption across the state by 2030. The policy targets 30% EV penetration in various vehicle categories, including two- and three-wheelers, passenger cars, and commercial vehicles. Public transport electrification is also prioritized, with specific goals for buses in urban areas.

To encourage EV purchases, the government offers subsidies up to ₹2 lakh for electric four-wheelers used in transport and up to ₹20 lakh for electric buses. Electric tractors and harvesters are eligible for subsidies up to ₹1.5 lakh. Additionally, EV buyers will enjoy exemptions from motor vehicle tax and registration renewal fees.

A key incentive is the complete toll exemption for EVs on major expressways like the Mumbai-Pune and Mumbai-Nashik routes, valid for five years. The government is also considering extending toll benefits to other state highways, supporting the shift toward electric mobility.

The policy mandates installation of EV charging stations every 25 km along state and national highways. New fuel stations must include EV chargers, and every MSRTC bus station or depot will have at least one fast-charging facility, improving accessibility and convenience for EV users.

Urban infrastructure will also see changes, with new residential buildings required to have EV charging facilities. Commercial buildings must reserve a portion of parking spaces for EV chargers, with public charging stations receiving financial support through viability gap funding.

Through these measures, Maharashtra aims to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions significantly. The policy aligns with the state’s Clean Mobility Transition Model, targeting a cleaner, greener transportation future while supporting sustainable economic growth.
