Summary :
The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, has issued an official order dated 8th September 2025 regarding a key leadership appointment in the renewable energy sector. In line with the approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) conveyed through order dated 25th August 2025, the President has appointed **Shri Akash Tripathi, IAS (MP:98)**, currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power, as the Managing Director of Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI).
As per the order, the position of Managing Director at SECI has been **temporarily upgraded to the rank and pay of Additional Secretary to the Government of India**. This decision reflects the government’s recognition of the strategic role SECI plays in driving the country’s renewable energy transition and the importance of strong leadership in executing large-scale solar and renewable energy programs.
The appointment was made with the approval of the Hon’ble Minister of New & Renewable Energy. The notification was signed by Suman Kumar, Under Secretary to the Government of India. Copies of the order have been forwarded to key officials including the Secretary of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, Company Secretary of SECI, and internal officers within MNRE for necessary action.
This appointment is expected to strengthen SECI’s leadership and further accelerate India’s renewable energy mission, particularly in scaling up solar energy adoption and achieving the country’s clean energy goals.
