In Detail : Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has reiterated the state government’s strong commitment to advancing green energy initiatives. He highlighted efforts to expand the state’s renewable energy capacity and reduce dependence on conventional fossil fuels.
The government aims to install 2,500 megawatts of solar power capacity by 2027. This is part of a broader plan to harness the state’s solar potential and contribute to India’s clean energy goals.
In addition to solar energy, Uttarakhand is focusing on hydroelectric projects to further diversify its green energy mix. Given the state’s mountainous terrain and natural water resources, hydropower remains a strategic priority.
The Dhami-led administration is also promoting electric mobility by offering tax rebates and incentives for CNG and electric vehicles. These measures are expected to encourage the adoption of cleaner transportation options among residents.
To support these initiatives, the state government has sought over ₹8,800 crore from the central government. The funding would be used to strengthen energy and housing infrastructure necessary for a sustainable transition.
With these combined efforts, Uttarakhand is positioning itself as a leader in India’s green energy push, aiming for both environmental sustainability and economic development.
