Wabag bags USD 100 mln contract in Dubai – EQ Mag Pro

Mumbai : Water treatment solutions provider Va Tech Wabag on Monday said it has bagged a USD 100 million contract from Green EPC for a desalination project in Dubai.

In a regulatory filing, the company said it has secured an order worth about USD 100 million towards engineering and procurement activities in relation to 120
million gallons per day Hassyan sea water reverse osmosis project in the United Arab Emirates The order was secured from Green EPC, a Utico FZC subsidiary, who is the prime EPC contractor for this project, the company said.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has selected Utico FZC as the preferred bidder to build the plant and operate it over a period of 35 years, under the independent water producer (IWP) model, wherein the authority will off-take 100 per cent of water from this plant.

“This is a significant break-through for Wabag in the UAE enabling us to showcase our technicalcapabilities and innovative solutions to ensure timely completion of this prestigious, challenging and fast track desalination project of national importance with team Utico and Green EPC.

With our first order in UAE, we have further consolidated our presence in the middle east region in line with our long term vision,” company’s CEO Middle East and Africa Cluster Deep Raj Saxena said.

The desalination plant is planned to be commissioned in phases by March 2024 and shall be the largest IWP in Dubai.

“The project is in the direction of Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 initiative to maximize use of green energy for production of desalinated water and aims at using solar power to supplement the power requirement of the plant during day time,” the company said
