In Short : Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has championed the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Solar Scheme across the state, launching subsidies, awareness campaigns like the ‘Surya Rath,’ and direct financial transfers to households to boost rooftop solar adoption. The campaign aligns with India’s national push toward renewable energy and aims to contribute to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2070 through community participation and policy support

In Detail : Chhattisgarh is accelerating its clean-energy transformation with major subsidies, grassroots outreach programs, and a long-term roadmap to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Deo Sai on Sunday declared that the state is entering a “new era of energy self-reliance,” with households now capable of producing their own solar electricity and even donating surplus power back to the grid. He was addressing a large gathering at the Solar Energy Awareness and Promotion Campaign held at the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium in Raipur, where he applauded the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana as a “transformative leap toward a greener and economically empowered Chhattisgarh.”

State Government Transfers ₹1.85 Crore Subsidy Directly to Solar Consumers

In a significant step toward incentivizing clean energy adoption, the Chief Minister electronically transferred ₹1.85 crore in state subsidies to 618 rooftop solar consumers, each receiving ₹30,000.

The government also launched the Surya Rath, a mobile awareness vehicle designed to educate citizens across districts about the economic and environmental benefits of solar energy

Chhattisgarh Aligns with India’s Net-Zero Carbon Goal for 2070

Reaffirming the state’s commitment to the national climate agenda set by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, CM Sai said that Chhattisgarh is now moving decisively from “reducing electricity bills” to “providing free electricity” through widespread solar adoption.

He emphasized that increasing public participation, strong institutional support, and growing environmental consciousness are powering the state’s clean energy momentum.

PM Kusum Yojana: Farmers Turn Power Producers

The event also saw the distribution of award letters under the PM Kusum Yojana, enabling farmers to generate their own power using decentralized solar systems.

Many beneficiaries are now not only meeting their own agricultural electricity needs but also selling excess power to the grid, significantly lowering operational costs and creating new income opportunities for rural families.

Chhattisgarh’s Power Capacity Soars from 1,400 MW to 30,000 MW

Highlighting the state’s rapid progress, the Chief Minister noted that Chhattisgarh’s power generation capacity has increased more than twentyfold, rising from 1,400 MW in 2000 to 30,000 MW in 2024, making it a major power supplier to central and eastern India.

With MoUs worth ₹3.5 lakh crore signed under the new industrial policy, Mr. Sai said the state is on track to emerge as one of India’s leading energy hubs.

Key Publications Released: Agrivoltaics & Grid Stability

The Chief Minister unveiled two crucial knowledge resources during the program:

  • Agrivoltaics Performer Handbook – offering farmers guidance on using land for both agriculture and solar power production.
  • Impact of Distributed Renewable Energy on Grid Stability – a comprehensive report aimed at planners and utilities managing the rise of decentralized energy systems.

Youth Engagement and Industry Participation Recognized

In an inspiring moment, Class 12 student Pratham Soni from Rajnandgaon delivered a presentation on the importance of solar energy, symbolizing the growing role of youth in India’s climate-aware future.

The state government also honored top-performing solar vendors under the PM Surya Ghar Scheme for their contribution to accelerating rooftop solar adoption.

Strong Political & Administrative Backing

The event was attended by several key leaders and administrators, including:

  • MLAs Mr. Motilal Sahu & Mr. Purandar Mishra
  • CREDA Chairman Mr. Bhupendra Savnani
  • Energy Secretary Dr. Rohit Yadav
  • CREDA CEO Mr. Rajesh Rana
  • ISEF President Mr. Suman Kumar

Their presence highlighted Chhattisgarh’s coordinated effort—from policymakers to engineers—to build a robust, renewable-powered future.
