As part of its policy of promoting rooftop solar systems in the institutional sector, the MP Urja Vikas Nigam has issued orders for installation of solar power systems in 39 collector offices.

Solar systems of 2,495 kW capacity would be installed in various collector offices in MP. The total cost of these systems is Rs 17 crore, of which the government of India will provide Rs 4.74 crore as subsidy. Installation of these systems would generate approximately 12,500 units per day and 45 lakh units annually, thus saving Rs 3.65 crore annually in the electricity bills of these 39 offices. Installation of SPV systems would not only significantly reduce the electricity bill, but also reduce dependence on conventional electricity generating sources.

This would also aid sustainable environmental growth. Principal secretary, New and Renewable Energy Department and managing director, MPUVN has asserted that various district offices and other government buildings like courts, education institutions, semi-government and central government buildings, etc are also being considered for installation of Solar PV Systems.
